It Was 40 Years Ago Today…
One of the few memories I have from before the age of about 6 or 7 is this one: Apollo 11 landing on the moon on July 20, 1969.
On that Sunday afternoon, someone in my family took polaroids of the television screen during the landing and, later, during Neil Armstrong’s descent to the surface (we didn’t have your fancy internets and iPods and HD TVs back then). Those polaroids have survived to this day, and a few of them are below.

The excellent website wechoosethemoon.org has been replaying the Apollo 11 mission in realtime since Friday, the 40th anniversary of the launch. As I write this, it’s about five hours until the actual landing, so you can listen to the communication between the astronauts and Mission Control as if it was happening today. Enjoy.

Geez, for a minute I thought that was the Erin Andrews peephole video.
