Stupid GM Tricks

I gave up on the Chicago Cubs back in July when they rolled over and played dead during a series here in Arizona. It was obvious they weren’t going to win it all, and they didn’t. We’ve been separated since then, but I’ll be filing divorce papers and finding another team if they really trade Mark DeRosa.

Yeah, he’s almost 34 and is only passable at any position other than second base. He’s also one of the few Cubs who plays with anything remotely approaching heart and grit, and who’s worth getting your hopes up for. I already hate probably half of the roster you’ve assembled, Jim Hendry, don’t make it worse. I don’t care if it’s Jake Peavy. Starting pitching ain’t the problem.

Granted, I cut myself shaving and I bleed blue, but I don’t dislike really anyone on the current roster (Edmonds won’t be resigned).

Soriano’s problem is he’s hitting in the wrong spot, Piniella can change that. Fontenot, Theriot, and Lilly are all heart and grit. After 41 years, I finally saw a no hitter, so I’ll give Zambrano a pass. Ramirez has turned into a MVP caliber player. Lee is fading but still top 5 at 1B in the NL.

Kenn, willing to share names, or at least generalize what you’re unhappy with?

Piniella CAN change that, but chooses not to. Repeatedly. Ad nauseum.

I hate Lee because he’s had, maybe, ten big hits in five years. Completely non-clutch player. Soriano is the worst outfielder I’ve ever seen and his selfishness doesn’t help. And once October comes, forget about it. Fukudome can’t play at the Major League level in this country. (Adjustment? Adjustment? Got two words for you: Ichiro Suzuki.) I hate Cotts and Marquis and Lilly and Gaudin and I’m not all that keen on Cedeno and Pie. Ramirez lost me in July.

Love DeRo. Love Reed Johnson. I can’t complain about Soto, not really. Zambrano’s not an ace – a no-hitter against a completely disinterested Astros team doesn’t make up for his selfish antics.
